FIRST FROST

The arrival of the first frost brings silence and stillness, serving as a reminder that we are entering a period of slowing down and introspection during the winter months. It's crucial that we actively seek these quiet moments, as they can offer a profound connection to our own inner peace.

This natural phenomenon is often observed during the tranquillity of the early morning, creating a serene and peaceful atmosphere. It reminds us to rediscover our serene nature when re-engaging with nature's rhythm, a rhythm we are a part of, instead of fighting against it.

For many years, I have struggled with the cold and darker months. However, I've noticed a shift as I've worked on healing my own personal darkness. The winters reminded me that I couldn't avoid the cold and murkier aspects of my life that needed attention. All the complaining about the wet and windy weather or taking a holiday to the sun each winter didn't "cure" my dislike of winter. I had to embrace it and listen to the darkness. From that point, I have gradually made winter a dear friend!

The frost in our gardens this morning represents the beauty of silence, much like the delicate patterns of frost. This comparison encourages us to appreciate quiet and solitude, finding beauty in stillness just as we find beauty in frost's intricate patterns. The delicate and intricate patterns of frost mirror the calm state of meditation or mindful walking practices. This winter, I encourage you to try these practices. They serve as a gentle reminder to tend to our internal garden this winter and to take a moment to pause, and reflect amidst the chaos of life.

With love, Kim x
